Reviewing the history of music: Rock

All we know what's Rock about, identify a rock song or say some famous rock singers but, do we really know what is it? well let's start with rock's history. Before the 1950s there was a type of music known as Rock and Roll, which descended from "rhythm and blues" and "country" but it was not until that year that people began to mix it with other types of music. It began to be influenced by blues, jazz, folk and even classical music and using as a denouncement for social evils. Guitar started being the most mopular instrument in this type of music, normally with a drum kit and a bass in the background or sometimes with a piano as main instrument too. Years later, rock began to become one of the most important musical types in history and to develop lots of subgeneres like  pop punk, rap rock, nu metal, glam rock, heavy metal, blues rock, folk rock and so on.

Year 1950

The rock movement started being one of the most popular types of music, Elvis Presley created the song That's Alright Mama, for many os of us, the start of the rock and roll. In addition great black singers arose like Chuck Berry, and began to bring rock to the black population. Later, Phil Spector revolutionized the music recording system, making the coming singers use that system.

Year 1960

One of the best years in the history of music, are born groups like The BeatlesThe Rolling StonesThe Kinks or The Who. Bob dylan begins to gather strength with his folk rock. In 1967 Leonard Cohen launches its first disc (personally my favourite songwriter) and 3 years latter appears the Grunge with  Led Zeppelin by the grunge hand.

Year 1970
Black Sabbath, Led ZeppelinDeep Purple and Queencreate the Heavy metal. And Specially the group Queen gets an amazing popularity thanks to song like Bohemian Rhapsody, a real masterpiece these days. The Runaways created the Proto-Punk and in 1974 born the punk rock with amazing groups like The Ramones or KissJames Brown was the maximum exponent of disco music. In parallel, large groups are born like AC/DC or Aerosmith. From Jamaica Bob Marley popularize the Reggae and in the other hand, groups as Iron Maiden or Van Halen popularize the Hard Rock.

Year 1980

Michael Jackson becomes the King of pop, while Madonna and Prince are top sales. Bruce Springsteen revived American rockU2 releases his first album called "boy" while Red Hot Chili Peppers triumphs in england and in USA Guns n' roses approaches to the hard rock with Appetite for Destruction or Welcome to the Jungle and later use a less violent style, to create some of it's best songs like Sweet Child o'              Mine or Paradise City,

Year 1990

Death Metal gets much harder with groups like  Cannibal Corpse, Immolation or Dying FetusThe grunge is turned upside down with very basic songs like Smells Like Teen Spirit, from NirvanaGuns N' Roses destroys the medium again with songs like Don't cry or Since I Don't Have You and Groups like Muse triumph with their political and social criticism, by the other hand Rap- rock gets popularity thanks to Linkin Park.

I'm sure you all know the rest of the story, if you are reading it, you are living it. This is just a part of the amazing story of the music which I expect you have ejoyed.

Our school succeeds in Cantalenguas 2017 final

We couldn't be more nervous; the expected day of the Cantalenguas had finally arrived. After whole days of rehearsal and expensive preparation , we were already for the grand final. Students from 1 to 4 of E.S.O. , companions and the teachers who directed the project we were heading to Córdoba. Since we got on the bus we knew that, even if we did not get the first prize, all our effort had not been in vain, since, not everyone is lucky enough to get there. When taking a walk through the streets of Córdoba, we made time waiting at the doors of the Góngora theater. The nerves increase by second when seeing the rest of the participating groups. The show finally begins, We enjoyed wonderful performances throughout the day, it was time to go on stage and we rehearse before going out, Between hugs and animos we go with energy to the stage to sing Nije ljubav stvar ( in serbian ).we enjoy the act like never before, we returned satisfied to our seats to rest and later we prepare to go out and sing again je te promets ( in French), it was our last performance so we knew we had to give our best, from the stage we saw our families and our companions and that reassured us a lot. We finished the presentation and we did not give much importance to the prize . We were satisfied with everything we had achieved and it was enough.finally with all our effort we won the first prize with the song Nije ljubav stvar , we were euphoric, we ran up to the stage to collect the prize and we began to sing of joy, we could not believe it. Then, we received the second prize with the song je te promets , again we went on stage happier than ever even knowing it was a second prize, It was something we wanted with all our will and we deserved it. We could not forget about the awards our teachers Carlos J Lucena and Rafael Caballero received , they deserved it for all the effort they made throughout the year so that everything was carried out. At the end of the show we went to celebrate dinner at the Burger King , We were all happy and satisfied with what we had achieved even as a small group.
As a reward, we all made an excursion to the aquatic park of Córdoba, the Aquasierra and later we went shopping in the Arcángel, Córdoba's commercial center. We spent an unforgettable day together as a big family.

ecology and environmental awareness

ECOLOGY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS:

As we all know, the world is facing the hardest problem ever for the humanity: the climate change. Climate change is a real problem (even though there are still people who think it’s just some lies from the ‘’eco-friendly ones’’). We need to do something before it’s to late, before there’s a flood.
Without our mobilitation, no change will be possible. The Earth as we know it, it’s dying. We aren’t noticing that, and that’d be our death too. That’s why activism, ecology and environmental awareness are so important.
The middle-class citizen is not at all informed of the situation and, moreover, it sees it as something unreal or distant to its reality. Climate change is happening faster than anyone, any scientist, aware us about.

I want to talk about this amazing paiting by Bosco so i can make you understand the situation in a better way: in the first panel we have Adan and Eva in the garden of Eden, some birds fly by and there’s a calm atmosphere. In the second one we can see an overpopulation, there’s no control, it seems not to be room for anyone else, i percibe it as a wildness world. The last panel it’s this twisted, decaded and burnt landscape, a paradise that has been destroyed.
I place ourselves in the second one, where it all is a mess. We need to consider this a big problem if we want to solve it now. As a human being, i’m truthly sorry for us, because we’re dumb and we can’t see what’s in front of us. We are destroying the Earth, we need to do something.
I feel anger talking about how many animal species have just dissapeared because of humans, they would just colonize their ecosystem and they would simply dissapear. The dodo, the passenger pidgeon, the tasmanian tiger, the quagga, the moa… The difference here is that we know what we’re doing now, we are conscious about it. We’re killing animal species in a bigger way.
Because of our need to get fosil energy, which our economy is based on, we’re poisoning rivers and destroying forests just to get energy and put it on fuel tanks, to get natural gas, petroleum and coal.
Our cars, planes, trains, the way we produce food, the way we build our cities, nearly everything we do, liberates CO2 and other gases, and this increases the climate change. the polar ice caps melt, the sea level begins to rise, and there will be more severe weather patterns, floods, hurricanes, droughts and uncontrolled fires.
The fact is that we have known about this problem for decades now. I imagine the world if we had taken seriously the problem back then.
In the universe, the earth it’s just a small bottle which is sinking, and we’ll all sink together. What’s going on? What can we do? Well, let’s see:

       -  Speak up!
The first tool we have to change the world is information: “Talk to your friends and family”. By voicing your concerns—via social media, for example—you send a message that you care about the warming world. Make the world know what’s going on.

-  Reduce water waste.
Saving water reduces carbon pollution, too. That's because it takes a lot of energy to pump, heat, and treat your water. So take shorter showers, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.

-  Limitate your palm oil consume:
Palm oil is in nearly everything web uy, it’s bad for heath and to produce it, people cut down a lot of forests, killing animals and plants that can help us with the CO2 production. As you already know, plants use CO2 in their breathing so, as more plants there are, less CO2 and pollution will be in the atmosphere.

- GO VEGAN
If you really want to change something, you should stop eating meat, fish and animal products. Cows, as a example, produce methane while they eat, each molecule of methane is equal to 23 molecules of CO2 in the atmosphere. To produce what animals eat, we use 43% of the total land, and we only eat 1% of that. What people spend making a Burger is equal to 200 hours of a lightbulb use or 24 hours of a window air conditioner. Stop killing animals for nothing. There are solutions, we just don’t see them. With the land available once we had stop killing animals needlessly, we could stop the hungry in the world 14 times. Numbers that really scare me. Remember you’re not a lion, you don’t eat meat to survive anymore.

These are just small changes, but the biggest one is to get information about what is going on, do not let the media control you. Think of yourself. If you do not want your future children or loved ones to see the world as the last pannel of Bosco's painting, you better start to do something.
The fact is that we are not really affected, what would happen to India, where they don’t even have electricity yet? Or Africa? They would not get bigger as a country, we'll stop their process completely. The same happens to pacific islands, if there is a rising sea level, they will disappear. And this is what we have done, it's Europe's, and the United States' fault, with so many others. We have destroyed the planet and also cultures who were getting bigger, now they're not. These ideas to stop the climate change I've put in here are just small things to do in here, but we have not even stop to think about Africa, India, China or pacifics islands.

As a normal citizen, we can not do much. We need to wait for the leaders of all countries to meet with each other and take some laws to follow, to not loose life as we know it.

AN UNFORGETTABLE END-OF-YEAR TRIP

The end-of-year trip in our school started the last 22 May when we visited Segovia before a lot of hours sitting in the bus. At night, we arrived in Laredo (Cantabria). We were there for three days: Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The rooms in Laredo’s hotel were very small and the food wasn’t delicious. In Cantabria we went to a lot of places, we went to the Natural Park called Cabárcenos where we saw a lot of animals. We walked in the “Picos de Europa” where the views were really beautiful and we also visited many villages, like Santillana del Mar. Finally, we visited Santander and then, we went to the beach where we took a lot of pictures.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we went in Asturias. The hotel was fantastic and the rooms were very big. The food was also delicious and we ate a lot there. In Asturias we did many activities in the mountains and in a famous river called Sella, we also did paintball and it was a real fun! We visited Covadonga Lakes and we went to the disco every day! The last day we went snowboarding in Madrid and we visited many shops. On Friday night we arrived at Doña Mencía and we slept many hours because we were really tired! As you can see, the trip was fantastic and we hope to repeat the trip all together!

STUDENT'S LOUNGE IN LUCENA 2017

Last February, the fourth grade students at ESO of IES Mencía López de Haro, we went to Lucena to visit the student lounge. The student lounge this year celebrates the fourteenth edition.

It is a formative educational activity, which is carried out every year, organised by Lucena city council in collabaration with the provincial Delegation of Education of Córdoba and with the guidance team of institutes of Lucena.

This activity wants to help us students and our families, giving us a wide and varied information, that will help us make decisions for our future, personal and professional.

We found great information and a great team fo advisecs who solved all the doubts.

There were fifty-eight exhibitions who could find information on vocational training, universities, official language schools, especial regime training...

In addition there are information points of school and university residences even job search in the state security forces. It was a helpful visit plus a downtown exit.

MencíaChef

A unique global event

For the first time in the IES Mencía López de Haro, a new cooking competition called MencíaChef has begun.
In the competition only students of the school participate and it is carried out in the gym or in the school library. There is also a jury formed by some teachers such as Francisco Pajuelos and María Soledad Granados who are history teachers, Francisco, Mariceli and Paco who are maths teachers. In the jury participate Alvaro Campos who is student and Angela who is a person of the AMPA (Parents' Association), too.

The students are in group of three and they have their own original name. Each group prepares a meal and then, they present it to the jury. It has been already two test. The first test was make a meal at their houses and then they have to carry the meal to the school and the second test was make a dessert, they have to prepare it in their houses but next, they have to present it in the library in 1 minute.

First, there were 35 groups but in the firt test were eliminated 10 groups and in the second test were eliminated others 10 groups so now there are only 15 groups.

There is a video of the first test made by Francisco Ruiz.

We interviewed our French teacher, Susana

Good morning, Susana, we would like to ask you some questions for the school newspaper, if you agree.

  1. First of all, tell us a little about yourself, where are you from?I was born in Madrid but when I was a little I was taken to Brussels and my return to Spain with two and a half years I moved to Jaén where I spend my whole childhood.

  1. What did you study? Where?
My degree is in Romance Philology but I will explain a little because after preparing for two years what was called baccalaureate what was called COU. I was two years preparing to enter the school of translator and interpreters of Granada and to not succeed I had to choose a work of the languages and chose French philology curse in Jaén, the first three years was there and the next two I did as Free student at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Cartujar, Granada. What enabled me to teach French was the higher cycle of languages because what I liked was French.

  2. How many schools have you worked at?
In 15 secondary school, this is my first time in the province of Cordoba here in Dona Mencia.

  3. When you arrived, what did you think about students and teachers in the school?
I think that this center has a good student body, in terms of teachers there is good weather which makes it possible to work very comfortable, comfortable and learn a lot from others. The first thing that I realized and I liked is the way to manage what is the maintenance of the patio facilities. You will do it for groups, participating in this house instead of considering this as a punishment, which is what I have seen in most of the centers, most of the projects you do like Erasmus + and acrosport, I really liked it Demonstrate your skills.

  4. Would you have liked to go into another profession?
I like teaching a lot and it is impossible and unthinkable to do a job other than this.

  5. On a personal level, do you think the school has a good level?
Yes, although that is something that can be improved.

  6. What methods do you use in your classes to encourage students to participate?
The most participative activities are the act of word and new technologies, to carry out works, to leave to the blackboard....

  7. Are you comfortable among the school's students?
I am very happy although sometimes I have to be angry, but what I would ask was that I had a little more respect and more interest to know, to learn and not so much depending on the results.

   9. Do you like the subject you are teaching?

I love it, before going to school I already spoke French because most of my family are married to French. French for me is like another of my usual languages.

  1. Would you like to continue working in this school until the school year is over?
I would love to repeat, the problem that we have the interim is that we take many turns, has its advantage because we know many people, but I feel quite comfortable even in the village in general that there are very welcoming people.

  1. Can you tell us an anecdote?
Anecdote I do not know, but one of my misunderstandings is that with the rush in the winter, I put a cardigan to the réves and you did not tell me any of the students anything and after 3 hours I realized. That made me think two things: on the one hand very happy because I said "Here to see the attention that I have lent during explanation and not realize that I wore the cardigan to the réves" then, on the other hand upon arriving at I thought, "No, Susana, you're making a mistake, but they've looked so little at you, you have not noticed the cardigan," which made me laugh. But more than anecdote is how well I have spent with you when we do the oral expression work because I think we have had a lot of fun and I have known you a little spontaneously.

Thank you for granting us the interview and for collaborating with our newspaper. A tender greeting.

Do you think that your behavior will not influence your future generation?

With this article you will show that you could be wrong, and that truly your behaviour if affects them.

Do you think that the colour of your eyes or your hair are chosen randomly?

Any feature that we have inherited from generation to generationand is determined by your genes, that are units of genetic transmission and their expression place gives to a hereditary character, for example the color of your eyes.

The genome is the set of genes that are in the chromosomes, that is to say the genetic material that has an organism or spice. It includes the whole DNA, therefore in every cell of our body we have the genome.

WHICH ARE THE LAST ADVANCES IN GENETICS? EPIGENETICS

According to the way in which you are, your genes may become affected, but always keeping intact the sequence of your DNA.

Conrad Hal Waddington in 1942 was the first person who spoke on the epigenetic, that is to say, the study of the relation of genes and the environment, which determines the expression of the above mentioned genes.

As we grow older, our genes change due to the environment. For example, there has been verified that smoking tobacco has negative consequences on our cells, leading to the appearance of the cancer. This was known and it has been demonstrated, but the great advance is the study of the epigenetics, that is to say, we have given a step further; and what a step!

A study has demonstrated, that during the Second World war, Holland suffered from a famine. The pregnant women of this time didn't feed well enough so that their babies were suffering stress, which provoked the appearance of diseases as schizophrenia and rickets. This didn't change their DNA but it provoked changes in the expression of their genes, affecting their following generations. In addition, there has been verified that the born babies of women who didn't live through these conditions didn't suffer from these changes, that is to say, they didn't suffer from the diseases that other babies had.

HOW CAN EPIGENETICS AFFECT AGING?

The importance that is given to the study of the epigenetic, leads to understanding  vital processes as we grow older. The epigenome in every cell is changing according to the stage of the development in which the person is.

For example, it has been observed that the genome changes in the human brain from the birth until it matures, but in the adult age it is kept stable. In the stage of the oldness there return to be changes.

In this case, it is impeded the work of the ARN, a copy of DNA, which goes out of the core of the cell and transports the genetic information, and diminishes the efficiency of the neurons.

AND REGARDING MEDICINE; WHERE WILL IT POSSIBLY COME UP TO?

Some epigenetics medicines, that according to Manel Esteller, the director of Epigenetic's Program and Biology of the Cancer in the Institute of Bellvitge's Biomedical Investigation, change the programming of the epigenome and these are applied for eight or ten years.

They are very effective, especially to treat leukaemias and linfomas. Now it is being investigated to treat other types of tumors; as the infantile ones.

In addition, they want to applied these treatments to lung, breast or colon cancer.
