STUDENT'S LOUNGE IN LUCENA 2017

Last February, the fourth grade students at ESO of IES Mencía López de Haro, we went to Lucena to visit the student lounge. The student lounge this year celebrates the fourteenth edition.

It is a formative educational activity, which is carried out every year, organised by Lucena city council in collabaration with the provincial Delegation of Education of Córdoba and with the guidance team of institutes of Lucena.

This activity wants to help us students and our families, giving us a wide and varied information, that will help us make decisions for our future, personal and professional.

We found great information and a great team fo advisecs who solved all the doubts.

There were fifty-eight exhibitions who could find information on vocational training, universities, official language schools, especial regime training...

In addition there are information points of school and university residences even job search in the state security forces. It was a helpful visit plus a downtown exit.

MencíaChef

A unique global event

For the first time in the IES Mencía López de Haro, a new cooking competition called MencíaChef has begun.
In the competition only students of the school participate and it is carried out in the gym or in the school library. There is also a jury formed by some teachers such as Francisco Pajuelos and María Soledad Granados who are history teachers, Francisco, Mariceli and Paco who are maths teachers. In the jury participate Alvaro Campos who is student and Angela who is a person of the AMPA (Parents' Association), too.

The students are in group of three and they have their own original name. Each group prepares a meal and then, they present it to the jury. It has been already two test. The first test was make a meal at their houses and then they have to carry the meal to the school and the second test was make a dessert, they have to prepare it in their houses but next, they have to present it in the library in 1 minute.

First, there were 35 groups but in the firt test were eliminated 10 groups and in the second test were eliminated others 10 groups so now there are only 15 groups.

There is a video of the first test made by Francisco Ruiz.

We interviewed our French teacher, Susana

Good morning, Susana, we would like to ask you some questions for the school newspaper, if you agree.

  1. First of all, tell us a little about yourself, where are you from?I was born in Madrid but when I was a little I was taken to Brussels and my return to Spain with two and a half years I moved to Jaén where I spend my whole childhood.

  1. What did you study? Where?
My degree is in Romance Philology but I will explain a little because after preparing for two years what was called baccalaureate what was called COU. I was two years preparing to enter the school of translator and interpreters of Granada and to not succeed I had to choose a work of the languages and chose French philology curse in Jaén, the first three years was there and the next two I did as Free student at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Cartujar, Granada. What enabled me to teach French was the higher cycle of languages because what I liked was French.

  2. How many schools have you worked at?
In 15 secondary school, this is my first time in the province of Cordoba here in Dona Mencia.

  3. When you arrived, what did you think about students and teachers in the school?
I think that this center has a good student body, in terms of teachers there is good weather which makes it possible to work very comfortable, comfortable and learn a lot from others. The first thing that I realized and I liked is the way to manage what is the maintenance of the patio facilities. You will do it for groups, participating in this house instead of considering this as a punishment, which is what I have seen in most of the centers, most of the projects you do like Erasmus + and acrosport, I really liked it Demonstrate your skills.

  4. Would you have liked to go into another profession?
I like teaching a lot and it is impossible and unthinkable to do a job other than this.

  5. On a personal level, do you think the school has a good level?
Yes, although that is something that can be improved.

  6. What methods do you use in your classes to encourage students to participate?
The most participative activities are the act of word and new technologies, to carry out works, to leave to the blackboard....

  7. Are you comfortable among the school's students?
I am very happy although sometimes I have to be angry, but what I would ask was that I had a little more respect and more interest to know, to learn and not so much depending on the results.

   9. Do you like the subject you are teaching?

I love it, before going to school I already spoke French because most of my family are married to French. French for me is like another of my usual languages.

  1. Would you like to continue working in this school until the school year is over?
I would love to repeat, the problem that we have the interim is that we take many turns, has its advantage because we know many people, but I feel quite comfortable even in the village in general that there are very welcoming people.

  1. Can you tell us an anecdote?
Anecdote I do not know, but one of my misunderstandings is that with the rush in the winter, I put a cardigan to the réves and you did not tell me any of the students anything and after 3 hours I realized. That made me think two things: on the one hand very happy because I said "Here to see the attention that I have lent during explanation and not realize that I wore the cardigan to the réves" then, on the other hand upon arriving at I thought, "No, Susana, you're making a mistake, but they've looked so little at you, you have not noticed the cardigan," which made me laugh. But more than anecdote is how well I have spent with you when we do the oral expression work because I think we have had a lot of fun and I have known you a little spontaneously.

Thank you for granting us the interview and for collaborating with our newspaper. A tender greeting.
